Join the community meeting with SFMTA to discuss traffic safety for the California corridor! The California Street Quick-Build Project will improve safety for those traveling on California Street from Arguello Boulevard to 18th Avenue. This project is part of the Vision Zero Quick-Build Program and will immediately implement treatments to improve safety for people of all ages on a street with historically high rates of injury-related collisions.
California Street is part of the city’s Vision Zero High-Injury Network. The High Injury Network consists of 13% of all San Francisco streets that account for 75% of severe and fatal collision. Between 2013 to 2017, there were a total of 86 reported collisions, of which 86% occurred at the intersections. In addition, about 13% of collisions involved pedestrians and vehicles. Utilizing an analysis of crash patterns and trends, safety improvements are anticipated to be implemented by the end of the year.
Proposed improvements include:
Daylighting - adding red painted curbs at intersection approaches to improve visibility for all road users
Continental Crosswalks
Advanced Limit Lines
Signs
